Freshman On-Track Toolkit (Network for College Success)

The NCS Freshman On-Track Toolkit is a collection of protocols, reports, resources, and artifacts used by our experienced Coaches in their daily work to help schools better support students through the critical first year of high school. The Toolkit is organized around four Components we believe are critical to implementing Freshman On-Track work. For each Component, you will find a collection of Tool Sets, or bundles of tools (including videos), organized to help you achieve freshman success goals.


Component: Understanding Research & Applying Data

In this NCS Freshman On-Track Toolkit Component, you will find tools to further your understanding of the fundamental On-Track research as well as guides for developing and tracking interventions. This Component also includes tools to support your team in communicating On-Track research to staff, students, and families. The application of research and data is essential to successfully implementing On-Track work in your school or district.


Component: Preparing to Lead

Strong leadership is vital to a successful On-Track initiative in any school. In this NCS Freshman On-Track Toolkit Component, you will find tools to build the capacity of the Success Team Lead as well as resources for school leaders/administrators. This Component also includes tools to support team planning and development, such a job descriptions and team meeting agenda templates.


Component: Setting Conditions for Success

In this NCS Freshman On-Track Toolkit Component, you will find tools to create and cultivate a community among team members. Includes are protocols on community building, developing norms, and other activities that foster trust and respect for developing and sustaining a successful team.


Component: Implementing School-Based Teams

In this NCS Freshman On-Track Toolkit Component, you will find tools to support accountable adult collaboration focused on improving student outcomes. Included are videos showcasing teams in actions, the NCS Freshman On-Track Inventory, and protocols for facilitating data-driven conversations. These tools will support the development of effective school-based teams, which are the anchors of successful On-Track initiatives.
